Mr. Derwood Bernard “Smack” Giles died on Monday, December 6th at the age of 62.

Mr. Giles was born November 10, 1959 in Durham, NC to the late Willie B. Giles and the late Viola Deeberry Giles. He was married to the late Classie Brown Giles and was employed by the city of South Boston, VA for several years.

Mr. Giles is survived by his life partner: Thelma Ferrell; (1) son: Derwood A. Wylie of Durham, NC; grandchildren; (2) sisters: Willie Giles of Los Angeles, CA and Jenee Parker (Willie) of Oxford, NC; (1) brother: Johnny Giles of Durham, NC; (1) uncle: Vernell DeBerry; (1) aunt: Ethel Webb and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by (1) brother: Charles L. Giles.

Funeral services for Mr. Derwood Bernard Giles will be Wednesday, December 15th at 2:00 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home with Pastor J.G. Willis, eulogist. Burial will follow in Rose Garden Cemetery.

Public viewing for family and friends will be Tuesday from noon until 6:00 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
