Mr. Earl Coolidge “Speed” Powell of Meadville Road died Sunday, January 15th at the age of 95.

Mr. Powell was born in Halifax County, VA of October 25, 1927 to the late Henry H. Powell and Henrietta Logan Powell and was first married to the late Annie C. Powell and later married Inez Younger Powell. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church.

Mr. Powell is survived by his wife: Inez Younger Powell of the home; (3) sons: Coolidge Powell (Venessa),Tracy Powell, Sr. (Veronica), all of Nathalie, VA, and Willard Powell (Sandra) of Mebane, NC; (2) daughters: Deborah Walton (William) of South Boston, VA and Gloria Powell of Nathalie, VA; (1) step son: Michael Hubbard (Daphne) of Tennessee; (20) grandchildren; (26) great grandchildren; (5) great great grandchildren; (3) step-grandsons and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded by (4) children: Barbara Powell, Douglas Powell, Michael Powell, Sr., and Marion Brame.

Funeral services for Mr. Earl Coolidge “Speed” Powell will be Saturday, January 21st at 11:00 a.m. at New Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Willie Yancey, eulogist. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing for family and friends will be on Friday from noon until 6:00 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home, South Boston, VA.
