Obituary
Florence “Carolyn” Palmer was born on July 25, 1951, to Florence (Miller) Palmer and Abraham Palmer, Sr. Carolyn grew up as the eldest of four children. She attended Mary Bethune High School until the 8th grade. She was also a member of Banister Hill Baptist Church and attended regularly with her family. She joined the Southside Virginia Services Board (SVSB) work shop and took part in many activities there. Upon her mother’s death she became a full resident at SVSB and moved to South Hill, Virginia.
She enjoyed listening and singing to the soul music of the 60’s and 70’s, while trying out new dance moves and encouraging her family to join in. Carolyn had a passion for life that was contagious and impacted those around her. Although she was the oldest of four children, she was always the youngest at heart. Carolyn enjoyed attending the day camp activities sponsored by SVSB and had many friends from the facility. She was always willing to help in any way she could with family and friends. However, the bond between her and her mother was like no other, at a time where resources were limited for special needs, her mother exceeded expectations when it came to shaping Carolyn’s life. Her mother was her teacher, nurse, and ultimately her best friend. The only light in losing such a wonderful soul is that she is reunited with her best friend in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Carolyn went to be with the Lord on October 30, 2022. She was preceded in death by her wonderful parents, Abraham Sr. and Florence Palmer, and her brother Abraham Jr. She leaves behind her youngest siblings, Stephen Palmer (Felicia Palmer), and Constance Eames (Herbert Eames), as well as an assortment of nieces and nephews.
When her health started to fail, she moved to Waverly Rehabilitation Center to get the care she needed.
Throughout her ordeal with health problems she never complained, and she would always say “It is OK I will be alright”.
