Ms. Gay Harris Barksdale of South Boston, VA died on Sunday, October 30th at the age of 71.

Ms. Barksdale was born March 5, 1951 in Halifax County, VA to Pocohantas Harris Barksdale and John Harris. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant C.M.E. Church.

Ms. Barksdale is survived by (6) children: Phyllis Barksdale of Danville, VA, Joanna Barksdale of Timberlake, NC, Johanna Barksdale of Fairfax, VA, Rose Barksdale of South Boston, VA, Annette Barksdale of Richmond, VA, and Eugene Barksdale of South Boston, VA; (19) grandchildren; (4) great grandchildren; (3) bonus daughters: Tiffany Briggs, Kyra Brigham and, Charlotte Betts; (5) God sons; (1) sister friend: Carolyn Chandler; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by (2) brothers: Edward L. Harris and John J. Harris; (2) sisters: Agnes Harris and Faith M. Clay, and (1) grandson: Traquan D. Barksdale.

Funeral services for Ms. Gay Harris Barksdale will be Saturday, November 5th at 2:00 p.m. at Good Shepard Outreach Mission with Rev. Dr. Ronnie L. Keene, eulogist. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant C. M. E. Church Cemetery.

Public viewing for family and friends will be at Jeffress Funeral Home Friday from noon until 6:00 p.m.
