Gladys Womack Barksdale

August 2, 1936 - June 6, 2021


Mrs. Gladys Lonell Womack Barksdale of Nathalie, VA died Sunday, June 6th at the age of 84.

Mrs. Barksdale was born in Halifax County, VA on August 2, 1936 to  Jossie Womack.  She was married to the late  Charlie Barksdale, Jr.  and was a member of New Mt. Olive Apostolic Church.

Mrs. Barksdale is survived by (3) sons: Earl Barksdale of the home, Walton Barksdale and Andrew Barksdale (Cathy), all of South Boston, VA; (1) daughter: Ruby Ross of South Boston, VA;  a host of grand and great grandchildren; (2) brothers: Onzie Womack of Vernon Hill, VA and Bennie White of New Haven, CT; (4) sisters-in-law: Leonia Palmer of Halifax, VA, Geneva Stovall of Delaware, Pauline Womack of New York and Rosa White of New Haven, CT; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, including Mable Carrington and Dorothy Fuller who was raised in the home, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband and mother, she was preceded in death by (2) sons: Dexter Jerome Barksdale and Malcom Barksdale; (2) sisters: Wisey Powell and Alice Holt; and (3) brothers: Flenton Womack, Willie Mack Womack and Roosevelt Womack.

Funeral service for Gladys Womack Barksdale will be Saturday, June 12th  at 11 a.m. at New Mt. Olive Apostolic Church with District Elder William Terry, eulogist. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. 

Public viewing for family and friends will be Friday from noon to 6 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
