Mrs. Gladys Morton Smith, born Sarah Glossie Morton, died Saturday, January 15th at the age 89.

Mrs. Smith was born in Halifax County, VA on November 2, 1932 to the late Charlie Lee Morton and Glossie M. Pleasant Morton. She was first married to the late Alonzo Coleman and later married the late Philip O. Smith. She was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church and later joined St. Luke Apostle Church.

Mrs. Smith is survived by (3) daughters: Mary C. Betts (Charlie) of Nathalie, VA, Marcia L. Richmond of Greensboro, NC and LaTonda D. M. Yancey (Robert) of Richmond, VA; (2) sons: Alonzo B. Coleman (Annette) of Chesapeake, VA and Charles M. Coleman (Wanda) of Nathalie, VA; (13) grandchildren; (24) great grandchildren and a host of nieces, including LaChonne Morton, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Charlie Morton, Amanda Garrett, Clara Morton, Irene Morton, Sophia Hicks, John Morton, Lucille Johnson, William Morton and Ernest Morton; and (1) great grandson: Trevant Coleman.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gladys Smith will be Saturday, January 22nd at 11 a.m. at South Boston Church of God with Pastor Larry Burrell II officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Public viewing for family and friends will be Friday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
