Ms. Helen Rebecca Kirby of South Boston died on Thursday, September 22nd at Sentara Regional Hospital at the age of 88.

Ms. Kirby was born September 12, 1934 in Maddox, Maryland to the late Ulysses Chandler and Inez King Chandler and was a member of Freedom Worship Center.

Ms. Kirby is survived by (7) children: Mary Hilliard of Roxboro, NC, Ann Furges (Melvin) of South Boston, VA, Connie Chappell of Danville, VA, Kay Walters of Fayetteville, NC, Herman Kirby (Moncheri) of Lillington, NC, and Sonia McGhee (Jamele) of Nanuet, NY Cathy Owens Oliver (Sidney) of Charlotte, NC; (4) siblings: Eva Pearson and Sharlotte Waller, both of Baltimore, MD, Christine Stovall (Leroy) of South Boston, VA, and Grant Chandler of Newport News, VA; (25) grandchildren; (50) great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by (1) son: Curtis Kirby; (2) brothers: Edward Chandler and James Chandler; (1) sister: Frances Chandler; a god sister: Silver Mae Logan; a beloved friend: John Owen; a nephew she raised: Arthur Chandler.

Funeral services for Ms. Helen Rebecca Kirby will be Friday, September 30th at 12 p.m. at Jeters Chapel Baptist Church with Elder Carl Clement, eulogist. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing for family and friends will be Thursday from noon until 6:00 p.m.
