Mr. Herbert Roosevelt Hamlett, Sr. of Scottsburg, VA died on Wednesday, January 4th at the age of 90.

Mr. Hamlett was born on April 9, 1932 in Campbell County, VA to the late David Hamlett and Temple Pannell Hamlett and was married to Tryshain Boyd Hamlett.

Mr. Hamlett is survived by his wife: Tryshain Boyd Hamlett; (3) sons: Herbert Hamlett, Jr. of Halifax, VA, Matthew Hamlett, Sr. (Denise) of Scottsburg, VA and Eric Hamlett of South Boston, VA; (2) daughters: Sandra Waller (Charles) of Nathalie, VA and Shemekia Chisholm (Kevin) of Cluster Springs, VA; grandchildren and great grandchildren; (1) sister: Bobbie Henry (Johnny}; (2) brothers: George Hamlett (Cathy) and Harold Hamlett, Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends including Edna Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by (5) brothers: Herman Hamlett, Russell Hamlett, Dan Hamlett, Ben Hamlett, and William Hamlett; and (1) sister: Frances Dixon.

Funeral services for Mr. Herbert Roosevelt Hamlett, Sr. will be on Thursday, January 12th at 1:00 p.m. at The Crawford House Chapel with Rev. Ronald Claiborne, eulogist. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, Brookneal, VA.

Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Wednesday from noon until 6:00 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home, South Boston, VA.
