Mr. James Arthur “Jack” Crews of Brown Summit, NC and formerly of Halifax County, VA died Tuesday, January 11th at his residence at the age of 70.

Mr. Crews was born on May 27, 1951 in Halifax County, VA to the late Joseph Hardy and Rosa Cecil Jennings. He was married to Margaret Foster Crews and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Madison, NC and a previous member of New Arbor Baptist Church. In 2006, James was inducted into the Halifax County/South Boston Hall of Fame.

Mr. Crews is survived by his wife: Margaret Foster Crews of the home; (2) daughters: Nicole Carter (Craig) and Melonie Foye (Dewayne); (3) sons: James Price (Kristy), Delvin Crews (Shana) and Anthony Crews (Crystal); (11) grandchildren; (2) great great grandchildren; mother-in-law, Clarise Foster; (8) sisters: Clarice Clayborn (Sydney), Dorothy Jackson, Rita Jennings, Daisy Traynham (Robert), Kathy Jennings, Valerie Jennings, Ruth Richardson (Wayne), and Tina Reeder (Manuel); (2) brothers: Calvin Crews (Shirley) and Johnny Turner (Yvonne); (3) brothers-in-law; (2) sisters-in-law; (5) aunts; (1) uncle; special cousins/brothers: Donald Crews, Charlie Marable, Bernard Strange, and Sylvester Durham; faithful prayer partners: Zack Reynolds Sr., John T. Collins, and Chris Dalton; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by (2) sisters: Rosa Jennings and Jeanette Hardy.

A celebration of life for Mr. James Arthur “Jack” Crews will be held Wednesday, January 19th at 1:00 p.m. with services at New Arbor Baptist Church, South Boston, VA with Rev. Tommy Crews officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing will be one hour prior to the service.

 A face mask and social distancing will be required at all viewings and services.
