Mr. James Harrison “Dick” Powell, Jr. of Stafford, VA and formerly of Halifax County died on Sunday, April 11th at the age of 65.

Mr. Powell was born in Halifax County, VA on March 25, 1956 to the late James Harrison Powell, Sr and Dorothy Wylie Powell and was married to Gloria Mae McCargo Powell. He was a member of Saint Matthew Baptist Church, a United States Army Veteran and a retired correctional officer of the DC Department of Corrections.

Mr. Powell is survived by his wife: Gloria Powell of the home; (2) daughters: Ashley Humbles (Austin, III) of Chesterfield, VA and Javona Powell of Stafford, VA; (4) grandsons; (4) brothers: Dennis Powell, Richard Powell, Bobby Powell and Messiah Powell , all of South Boston, VA; (2) sisters: Lola Powell of South Boston, VA and Mary Edmunds (Frederick) of Drakes Branch, VA; (1) brother-in-law; (1) sister-in-law; (1) aunt and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by (1) sister: Virginia Powell.

Funeral service for Mr. James Harrison Powell, Jr. will be Saturday, April 17TH at 11 a.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.

Public viewing for family and friends will be Friday, April 15th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Following COVID-19 guidelines, seating will be limited, a face mask and social distancing will be required.
