Mr. Joe Louis Lester of Philadelphia, PA and formerly of Halifax County, VA died on Sunday, January 8th at the age of 73.

Mr. Lester was born June 21, 1949 in Halifax County, VA to the late Radford Lester and Lena Lester and was married to Faith Coleman Lester. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Virgilina, VA until relocating to Philadelphia, PA. He then joined The New Psalmist Baptist Church and was a United States Army Veteran.

Mr. Lester is survived by his wife: Faith Lester of Philadeplhia, PA; (1) son: Damon Lester (Angelica) of Bowie, MD; (3) sisters: Francis Garner of Newport, News, VA, Alberta Patterson of Philadelphia, PA, and Catherine Fitzgerald of Washington, DC; (1) brother: John Lester (Dale) of Philadelphia, PA; (5) grandchildren; (1) aunt: Cecelia Crutchfield; (3) brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by (2) brothers: Lee and Charlie Lester.

Funeral services for Joe Louis Lester will be Saturday, January 14th at 11:00 a.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home with Rev. Glenn Faulkner, eulogist. Burial will follow in First Baptist Church Cemetery, Virgilina, VA with military rites by American Legion Post 99 and United States Army Honor Guard.

Public viewing for family and friends will be on Friday from noon until 6:00 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home, South Boston, VA.
