Mr. John Owen Henry Thorpe, Jr. of Alton, VA died Thursday, July 28th at the age of 63.

Mr. Thorpe was born in in Halifax County, VA on November 18, 1958 to the late John Owen Henry Thorpe, Sr. and Mary Lucy Medley Thorpe. He was married to Juanita Lipscomb Thorpe and was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Alton. Mr. Thorpe was employed with BHI Energy for 31 years.

Mr. Thorpe is survived by his wife: Juanita Lee Thorpe of the home; (2) children: Antuan Thorpe (Tiphanie) of Newport News, VA, and Monica Branch (Deondre) of South Boston, VA; (6) grandchildren; (1) great grandchild; (3) siblings: Mary “Yvonne” Hicks (Russell) of Roxboro, NC, Danny Thorpe (Rachael) and Cecil Thorpe (Irene), both of Alton, VA; and a host nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by (1) son: Jonathan Chavious and (1) grandson: Ryheem Chavious.

Funeral services for Mr. John Owen Henry Thorpe, Jr. will be Friday, August 5th at 2 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church in Alton, VA with Rev. Paul Crews, eulogist. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing for family and friends will be Thursday from noon until 6:00 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home. A face mask is required at the church.
