Mrs. Lauretta McPhail Martin of South Boston, VA died Thursday, August 11th at the age of 79.

Mrs. Martin was born on August 28, 1942 in Halifax County, VA to the late Patrick Henry McPhail and Virginia Cobbs McPhail. She was married to Bristol Martin, Jr. and devoted 39 years to Halifax County Public School serving as a history and government teacher for many years before serving as a guidance counselor.

Mrs. Martin is survived by her husband, Bristol Martin, Jr. of the home; (2) sons: Bristol Martin, III of South Boston, VA and Patrick Martin, Sr. (Kelly) of Greensboro, NC; (3) grandsons: Craig Martin, Patrick Martin, Jr. and Grant Bennett; (2) nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister: Virnetta McPhail Hill.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lauretta McPhail Martin will be Saturday, August 20th at 2:00 p.m. at Halifax County Middle School. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private.
