Lauretta Owen Tucker

Obituary

Lauretta Owen Tucker was born November 20, 1939, in Halifax, Virginia. She departed this life on November 23, 2021, at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 82. She was the daughter of the late Willie Roger Owen and Mary Tucker Owen, and was married to the late Letcher Ray Tucker.


Lauretta was converted at an early age and joined Banister Hill Baptist Church where she ushered for many years, sang in the Gospel Chorus, the Senior Choir; she also served as the President for the Bible Class, and was a missionary.


Lauretta was educated at Mary M. Bethune School. For many years she worked for Burlington Industries, until she retired. Later, she worked at Woodview until her health declined.


She enjoyed the times when she volunteered at Halifax Regional Hospital, and the Good Samaritans. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life.


Lauretta leaves to cherish loving memories, (2) daughters: Denise Ross of South Boston, VA and Sandra Lovelace of Halifax, VA; (4) grandchildren: Kimberly Lovelace of Lynchburg, VA, Jennifer Ross of South Boston, VA, Jason Ross (Nakelia) of Clover, VA, and Minister KeAunte’ Clements (Minister Beverly) of Danville, VA; (5) great-grandchildren: Joie Ross, Grace Clements, Josiah Ross, and Isaiah Clements; and (2) step grandchildren: Deborah Snoddy and Consuella Battle, both of Camden, SC; a special great nephew that she helped raised, Fred Tucker, III (Trey); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by (1) granddaughter: Tiffany Ross, (1) son-in-law:James Ross, Jr; (4) brothers: Willie Roger, Sterlyn, Robert, and Clarence Owen;  and (5) sisters: Emma Owen, Mary Pettaway, Annie Mae McFadden, Barbara Owen, and Katherine Strange.


Funeral service for Lauretta Owen Tucker will be Monday, November 29th at 11 a.m. at The Crawford House Chapel. Burial will follow in Bannister Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Halifax, VA.


Public viewing for family and friends will be Sunday from noon until 6 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home. A face mask and social distancing is required.
