Mrs. Maria Briggs Scott died Sunday, August 15th at the age of 78.

Mrs. Scott was born in Halifax County on November 2, 1942 to the late Alexander Briggs and Susie Norwood Briggs. She was married to the late William D. Scott and was a member of Jeter Chapel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Scott is survived by (1) son: Rodney Scott (Angie) of South Boston, VA; (1) daughter: Cherie M. Scott of Henrico, VA; (1) daughter-in-law: Linda Scott of Dinwiddie, VA; (3) grandchildren; (1) god daughter: Latonya Crutchfield; (4) sisters: Janie Brown, Mildred Patterson, Ann Coleman and Linda Briggs; (1) brother: William Briggs (Bernadette); (1) brother-in-¬law; (1) sister-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by (1) son: Wilfred A. Scott; (1) granddaughter: Shaakira L. Scott; (4) sisters: Mary, Rose, Frances and Yvonne and (4) brothers: Wilkins, Abraham, James and Reginald.

Funeral services for Mrs. Maria Briggs Scott will be Saturday, August 21st at 11 a.m. at Jeter Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. 

At the request of the family there will be no public viewing.
