Mary Lee Davis Bostick

September 30, 1928 - November 4, 2021

Obituary

Beloved mother and grandmother, Mary Lee Davis Bostick departed this life on November 4, 2021 at the age of 93.

Born on September 30, 1928 to the late William and Hester Venable Davis, Mary is remembered as a gentle spirit with an unwavering devotion to God and family.

After graduating salutatorian of Halifax Training School, Mary pledged her love in marriage to the late John Robert Bostick, Sr., with whom she had eleven children. Mary was a dedicated member of St. Luke CME Church in Halifax, VA, where she served as a missionary and choir member.

With a talent for sewing, Mary held several jobs within the textile mills throughout Halifax County and labored as a tobacco worker for many years. Her work continued at home as she helped to raise several of her grandchildren and neighboring children.

A quiet soul, Mary would often be found sweeping her porch or tending to her flowerbed while humming her favorite gospel hymns. She showed her love through homemade yeast rolls and cobblers and taught The Lord’s Prayer to her grandchildren as they snapped green beans at her kitchen table.

Though her life was simple, her love was unconditional.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Rev. Yvonne Bostick, Joanne Bailey (Clyde), Jeanette Bostick, Juanita Carr (Robert), Jacqueline Bostick, Gail Bostick, John Bostick, Jr., Mary Lee Bostick-Douglas (Keith), and Cherri Bostick of Halifax County, VA; (14) grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Dorothy Fuller of Charlotte, NC; and her devoted “sister-cousin” Louise Martin.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary is preceded in death by her four siblings: Bernice Womack, Mildred Bostic, Marie Cage and James Davis; and (2) daughters: Cheryl Bailey (the late Derek Bailey) and Wanda Jeffress (Stanley).

A graveside service will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery on Thursday, November 11th at 1:00pm. A face mask will be required.

Viewing hours will be from 10:00am to 6:00pm on Wednesday, November 10th at Jeffress Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are by Jeffress Funeral Home, 2000 North Main Street, South Boston, VA.
