Mr. Melvin Lee Bailey, Sr.  of Alton, VA died on Saturday, December 23rd at the age of 77.

 

Mr. Bailey was born October 31, 1946 in Halifax County, VA to the late Frank and Morada Bailey Traynham. He was a United States Army Veteran, a member of Virginia Army National Guard and a member of The Prayer Faith Ministry Church.

 

Mr. Bailey is survived by his (2) daughters: Martha Norwood and Josephine Williams (James), all of South Boston, VA;  (1) son, Melvin Lee Bailey, Jr. (1) sister, Linda Bailey of South Boston, VA; lifelong friend, Shirley Mae Barley of the home; (2) special sons that he raised as his own: Rickey Barley (Sherri) and Gary Barley (Shirley);  (10) grandchildren; (9) great grandchildren; a devoted friend, Shelia Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by (1) brother, Willard Bailey; (1) sister, Arlene Bailey and his former wife, Estelle Stewart Bailey.

 

Funeral service for Mr. Melvin Lee Bailey, Sr. will be Saturday, December 30th at 11:00 a.m. at The Crawford House Chapel, Halifax, VA with Apostle Brenda Smith, eulogist. Burial will follow in Dan River Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

 

Public viewing for family and friends will be Friday from noon until 6:00 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home, South Boston, VA.
