Our beloved Dublin Rudolph Brooks was born in South Boston on April 24, 1955, to the late Doris and William Brooks. A graduate of Halifax County High School, Dublin then attended Virginia State University where he became a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and earned a degree in education. At an early age, he joined the Ebenezer Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in South Boston, Virginia. Driven by a passion for serving the most marginalized people of our society, Dublin devoted his career to helping others, from an institute for adults with special needs to a federal prison to a school for troubled youth.

 

A serial entrepreneur, he was known for his many hobbies and business endeavors. He loved photography and calligraphy, and he was an avid reader, cinephile, and lover of music. He operated businesses focused on screen printing and embroidery, ran a Greyhound bus station, and even grew and sold microgreens as part of his local Rose & Garden Club.

 

Dublin was a loving husband, a dedicated father and a steadfast friend. He is survived by his adoring wife, Vivian of Nathalie, Virginia, as well as his children, Veronica Brooks-Uy (Kevin Uy) of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Brian Brooks (Kelly Manno) of Washington, D.C.; his grandchildren, Thurgood and Octavia Uy; his siblings, Ann McInnis of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Kevin Keith of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Mattie Brooks Moore of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Willie Rudolph Brooks, Jr. of Norfolk, Virginia; his sisters-in-law, Gloria Wilson of Clover, Virginia, Carolyn Williams (Isaac Williams) of Chesapeake, Virginia, Linda Wilson of South Boston, Virginia, Jean Logan of Java, Virginia; a host of nieces and nephews; as well as his cousins, Billy and Lorraine Carrington of South Boston, Virginia, and Edwin Shannon of Norfolk, Virginia. He was preceded in death by a brother, Waverly Brooks.

 

The family would also like to recognize and share our sincerest gratitude for Vivian’s and Dublin’s caregiver, Wendy Waller, of Nathalie, Virginia. We are also thankful for the nursing services provided by Marsha’s HomeCare Agency.

 

Funeral services for Diblin Rudolph Brooks will be Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 11 am at the Crawford House Chapel, Halifax, Virginia, with Rev. Blanche Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church in Nathalie, Virginia.

 

Public viewing for family and friends will be Saturday from 10 am to 11 am at the Crawford House Chapel.
