Mr. James “Jake” Reed of Vernon Hill died on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at the age of 73.

Mr. Reed was born January 21, 1951 in Halifax, VA to the late Ben Harrison Reed and Pauline McNear Reed. He was married to Virley Sims Reed and was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. 

​

Mr. Reed is survived by his wife, Virley Sims Reed of the home; (1) daughter, Monica Y. Womack of Vernon Hill, VA; (2) brothers: Robert Louis Reed (Martha) and Clifford Lynwood Reed (Barbara), all of Vernon Hill, VA; (3) sisters: Elsie L. Kirby (Paul) of Halifax. VA, Geraldine Funderburk of Yanceyville, NC and Gladys Connelly of Danville, VA; (2) sisters-in-law: Barbara Miller Reed and Diane Scott Reed; devoted nephew and niece: Vantrese Boyd and LaRae Reed; and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by (2) sons: John Jackson and Tyrone Holt; (2) brothers: Harrison Reed, Jr., and Willie “Bill” Reed.

Funeral services for Mr. James “Jake” Reed will be Friday, April 26th at 11:00 a.m. at The Crawford House Chapel. Burial will follow in Reed Family Cemetery.

Public viewing for family and friends will be one hour prior to service Friday.
