Mrs. Odessa Thorpe of Alton, Virginia died Thursday, March 2nd at the age of 88.

Mrs. Thorpe was born in Halifax County, VA on October 20, 1934, to the late John Chavious and Mary Cates Chavious. She was married to the late Joseph S. Thorpe and was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church of Alton, VA. Mrs. Thorpe was employed at Tultex Manufacturing for many years, where she became a supervisor.

Mrs. Thorpe is survived by (2) grandchildren: Byron Thorpe and Larry Thorpe, Jr. (Linnette); (3) great-grandchildren: Cameron, Bryson, and Ma’Riyah; (1) daughter-in-law: Shelia Tucker; and (1) sister-in-law: Jeraldine Coleman and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by (3) children: Carolyn Thorpe, Larry Thorpe, Sr., and Joseph Donnie Thorpe.

Funeral services for Mrs. Odessa Thorpe will be Sunday, March 5, 2023 at 2 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church in Alton, VA with Rev. Harvey Bigelow, eulogist. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing will be Saturday, March 4th from noon to 6 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home from with the family present at 4 p.m.
