Mrs. Shonya Cawthon Tankard of Suffolk, VA and formerly of Halifax County, VA died Wednesday, July 28th at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, VA at the age of 51.

Mrs. Tankard was born on November 30, 1969 in Duluth, MN to Edith Jennings Cawthon and the late Clarence Edwin Cawthon. She was married to Carlos Tankard, Sr. and was a member of First Baptist Church, South Boston, VA.

Mrs. Tankard is survived by her husband: Carlos Tankard, Sr.; (1) son: Carlos Tankard, Jr.; (1) daughter: Ragan Tankard; her family dog: Chloe; her mother: Edith J. Cawthon; (1) brother: Edwin M. Cawthon (Tracey); her mother-in-law: Linda Tankard; her mother-like aunt: Harriett J. Claiborne (Bryant); (2) uncles: Henry Jennings, Jr. and Pastor Hayward Jennings, Sr. (Toni); and a host of cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Shonya Cawthon Tankard will be held Saturday, August 7th at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Ferry Street, South Boston, VA with Rev. Hayward Jennings, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. A face mask and social distancing will be required.

Public viewing for family and friends will be at Jeffress Funeral Home Chapel on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
