Obituary
Mrs. Susie A. Witcher, 96, of South Boston, Virginia joined her heavenly Father on March 19th due to COVID-19. Mrs. Witcher was vibrant, active, independent, self-sufficient and driving. She was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia on January 4, 1925 the second child of the late Frank M. Allen and Ada Carter Allen.
She received her early education in the schools of Pittsylvania County and John M. Langston High School in Danville, Virginia; Bachelor of Science Degree from St. Paul’s College, Lawrenceville, Virginia; and a Master of Science Degree from Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia. Further studies were done at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
On December 22, 1951, she married her the love of her life since adolescence. She wed the late Raymond E. Witcher, M.D. To this union two beautiful children were born- Carolyn Denise and Raymond E. II.
Having a love for children and a need to help them meet their potentials, her service to mankind began in the schools of Pittsylvania County – Mt. Freeman Elementary School. She also taught in the schools of Arlington, Virginia and South Boston, Virginia. She retired after a tenure of forty-one years. She touched most of the lives in this town. She gave much love, and love in abundance was returned. On Sunday, August 30, 2020 there was a Family and Community Recognition ceremony for her and drive bye parade.
Family who preceded her: husband, Raymond E. Witcher, MD; sister, Geraldine Allen; brothers: Frank Allen, Clyde Allen, and Will Allen; sisters-in-law: Eva Mae King, Naomi Witcher, Nonnie Witcher, “Bea” Perkins Witcher Fitzgerald, Bessie Witcher, Mozelle Allen Trimar; brothers-in-law: Ellis Witcher, James Witcher, Lawrence Witcher and sister friend, Ella Mae Stokes; niece, Cora A. Alexander; nephews: Jerry Witcher, Melvin Witcher, Augustine Witcher and Ronald Allen; and great niece Dawn M. Powell.
She leaves two loving and devoted children: Dr. Carolyn Denise Witcher Sessoms (Willie), Upper Marlboro, MD; and Raymond E. Witcher, II (Avien), Temple Hills, MD; grandsons: RaShawn McLeod of Stamford, CT, Christopher Sessoms (Stephanie) of Roanoke, VA and Derrick Sessoms (Kenya) of Huntingtown, MD; a precious granddaughter, SuRae Avenise, Temple Hills, MD, who has brought so much happiness and joy to her life. Her only regret is that she won’t see you grow into a young lady, but she thankful to God for sharing her for a little while. She leaves a dear sister-in-law, Hattie Allen, Dry Fork, Virginia; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, many other relatives and friends.
