Tanzania “Nia” Thorpe of Scottsburg, Virginia gained her wings on February 10, 2021 at the Georgia Piedmont Athens Medical Center in Athens, Georgia at the age of 45. She was born on March 10, 1975 in Halifax County, Virginia, and she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John and Janice Torian of the home.
Nia was a member of Spanish Grove Baptist Church where she received Christ as her Savior at seven years old. She attended the Halifax County Public Schools in which she was a member of the Halifax County Blue Comets Marching Band. Nia was a college graduate of Strayer University in 2009 in receiving her bachelor's degree of Science in International Business. She worked as a cosmetologist at Smart Stylez Salon in South Boston, Virginia. Nia loved to sing, listen to music, read and write, style hair and help others when she could.
Nia leaves behind her parents: Mr. and Mrs. John and Janice Torian of the home; her husband, Ernest Lamont Thorpe of South Boston, VA; two sisters: Ms. Latoya Torian and Octevia Torian of Scottsburg, VA; one god-sister, Tara McFarland of Danville, VA; and her in-laws: Avon and Janice Traynham of South Boston, VA, Kim Traynham of Clarksville, VA. Nia was a stepmom to Kendra Harris and “Meme” to lil Miss Hayzel Marie Tuck; two brothers-in-law: Dwayne and Dale Traynham; two sisters-in-law: Lauren Faulkner of Clarksville, VA, and LaWayna Herndon of Gladys, VA; a devoted aunt Valerie (uncle Lo) of South Boston, VA; her godfather, Samuel Carden of Clinton, MD; along with other cousins and friends far and near, and definitely “Momma Max”.
Nia was preceded in death by two brothers; one sister; her paternal and maternal grandparents; nephew, Caden Alaire Faulkner; one uncle, Victor Roberson; one aunt, Beverly Walls; great aunts; one god-sister Scentique Tabron; and her godmother, Frances Colvil, who recently preceded her in death.
