Mr. Waverly Stephens, Sr. of Alton, VA died December 9th at the age of 79.

Mr. Stephens was born in Halifax County, VA on February 23, 1943 to the late Joe Henry Stephens and Maxine Jeffreys Stephens. At an early age he joined Greater Brandon Baptist Church.

Mr. Stephens is survived by (1) son: Waverly Stephens, Jr.; (4) brothers: Charlie Wayne Jeffreys, Joe Stephens (Minnie) of South Boston, VA, Frederick Stephens (Michaela) of El Paso, TX and Roger Stephens of Suffolk, VA; (2) sisters: Dorothy Parham (Jacob) of Petersburg, VA, and Sheila Campbell of South Chesterfield, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends including Darnell Walker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by (3) brothers: Henry Lee, Ezender Stephens and Donald Tutt and (1) sister: Mae Stephens Pointer.

Funeral services for Mr. Waverly Stephens, Sr. will be Wednesday, December 28th at 1 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Brandon, eulogist. Burial will follow in Greater Brandon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Public viewing for family and friends will be the day of the service.
